Description: Three types of communities emerge from the GoodWork® study in law: communities that are good for the lawyer, but not necessarily for the broader society; communities that may not be good for the lawyer, but that seek to benefit society; and communities that are good for both the lawyer and the broader society. While considerable variety emerges within cyberlaw, criminal law, mergers and acquisitions, and small town practice, we did find distinct links between areas of law, on the one hand, and types of communities on the other. In this paper we examine what is known about the different types of communities; what impact these communities have on the lawyers within them; and what impact lawyers have on the various communities.
